BACOLOD City is now ranked third among the Top Ten Next Wave Cities (NWC) for outsourcing and off-shoring for 2010.
Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT), said from fifth place last 2009, Bacolod now ranks third for outsourcing and off-shoring.
Batapa-Sigue noted that last week, Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) Commissioner Monchito Ibrahim informed her that Bacolod now ranks third in the Top Ten NWC.
She said this development is a great milestone for the people of Bacolod and Negros Occidental.
"We are a few notches away from the top post and is therefore a good reason to strive harder especially in the aspect of human resource development, which comprises the largest criterion for the NWC selection," she said.
The results were also formally announced last week before the press briefing by CICT, BPAP and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
For this year, the CICT also announced that Metro Clark has been recognized as an IT-BPO Center of Excellence, joining the ranks of Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, primarily due to Metro Clark's growth in terms of employment size and robust infrastructure.
Batapa-Sigue said the list was topped by Davao followed by Sta. Rosa, with Bacolod as third, followed by Iloilo, Metro Cavite, Lipa City, Cagayan de Oro, Malolos City, Baguio City and Dumaguete City.
She said the talent criterion carries the largest weight of 40 percent in the overall ranking, which explains Davao City's position at the top.
In addition to talent, the other factors affecting city ranking are infrastructure, cost, and business environment.
Cities are scored for the quality of their roads, access to international and domestic flights, presence of providers of fiber optic networks, reliability of power supply, availability of property sites, cost of labor and office space, vulnerability to natural disturbances, peace and order situation, the presence of Peza sites and ICT councils, among other factors.
