Leonardia Elected Executive Vice President of the League of Cities of the Philippines
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia was elected Saturday as new Executive Vice President of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
During the LCP’s 57th General Assembly, attended by DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, mayors coming from all over the country also elected San Fernando City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri, and Calapan City Mayor Paulino Leachon as President, Chairman, and Vice Chairman respectively.
Leonardia is the only non-Liberal and the only mayor outside of Luzon who secured one of the top four key positions of the LCP. Leonardia is a member of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition.
Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan was chosen as Regional Representative for Region 6.
The newly-elected officers will be sworn into office by no less than President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III in Malacañang Palace today (July 19th).
During his four terms as mayor, Leonardia has consistently held national positions in the LCP: in 1995-Vice President for Visayas, in 2004-Deputy Secretary General for Visayas, and in 2007-National Vice Chairman.
He considers his election as Executive Vice President of LCP as sentimental as he also held the same position with the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines National Board in 1994.
“I am very grateful to my fellow city mayors in the country for their trust and confidence,” quipped Mayor Leonardia, who also express “my special thanks to Negros Occidental Governor Freddie Marañon, former Governor Isidro Zayzo, who is now the Kabankalan City Mayor, and to all the mayors of the province for giving me their unswerving and all-out support.”
Other elected officers of the LCP are Vice President for Luzon-Allen Singson (Candoni), Vice President for Visayas-Dan Lim (Tagbilaran), Vice President for Mindano-Samuel Co (Pagadian), and Vice President for National Capital Region-Sherwin Gatchalian (Valenzuela).
Hernani Braganza (Alaminos) is the Secretary General with Benjamin Lim (Dagupan) as Treasurer, Abraham Tolentino (Tagaytay) as Auditor, and Eduardo Pamintuan (Angeles) as PRO.
Aside from Sarratan, the other Regional Representatives are for Region 1-Michael Farinas (Laoag), Region 2-Amelita Navaro (Santiago), Region 3-Romeo Capinpin (Palayan), Region 4-A-Joaquin Chipeco (Calamba), Region 4-B-Edward Hagedorn (Puerto Princesa), Region 5-Linda Gonzales (Ligao), Region 7-Karen Villanueva (Bais), Region 8-Reynaldo Uy (Calbayog), Region 9-Evelyn Uy (Dipolog), Region 10-Lawrenze Cruz (Iligan), Region 11-Rey Uy (Tagum), Region 12-Darlene Antonio Custodio (General Santos), NCR-Florencio Bernabe Jr. (Parañaque), Cordillera Administrative Region -Mauricio Domogan (Baguio), Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao-Fahada Panarigan (Salic), and Caraga Region-Ferdinand Amante Jr. (Butuan).
